Some Hadeeth on Tark-e-Rafa Yadain and Request about Hadeeth of Ibne Umar (R.A.)
I am in the process of compiling evidences to support Tark-e-Rafa Yadain.
I have read in Athar-Us-Sunan the technical arguments on the hadeeth of Ibne- Umar regarding sanad and contents, if any one has a soft copy of those arguments kindly share.
Argument by Ahle-Hadeeth
Tark-e-Rafa yadain (Abandoning of Raising Hands) before and after rukoo is supported by only one hadeeth of Abdullah Bin Masood [rd]
Answer: There are many ahadeeth supporting Tark-e-Rafayadain. Following is a list that has been extracted from “Mudallal Namaz By Maulana Faiz Ahmed”.
1. “Jabir b. Samura reported: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) came to us and said: How is it that I see you lifting your hands like the tails of headstrong horses? Be calm in prayer”( Sahih Muslim, Chapter 24 : The Command To Observe Prayer With Tranquillity, Also mentioned in Nasai, Abu-Dawood, Musnad Imam Ahmed, Tahavi).
According to Maulana Faiz Ahmed, this is a clear indication that tranquility is necessary in prayers rather than raising hands. He further explains that the Arabic phrase “Fi Salat i.e. In prayer” refers to the actions that are performed during the prayers rather then the ones at the start and at the end.
2. “Hannaad - Wakee' - Sufyaan - Aasim bin Kulaib -Abdur Rahmaan bin Al Aswad - Alqamah who said: Abdullah Bin Mas'ood (radhiyallahu anhu) said: Should I not perform with you the Salaat of Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wa Sallam)?'He (Ibn Mas'ood) then performed Salaat and he did not raise his hands except in the beginning once.” (Tirmizi, Part 1 Pg 35, Abu Dawood, Part 1 Pg. 116, Nasai, Part 1, Pg 161, Mahla Ibn-e-Hazm Zahiri, Daara Qutni, Baheqi, Musannaf Abi Shaibah, Muatta Imam Muhammad, Musnad –e- Ahmad, Tahavi,)
This hadeeth has been termed as hassan by Imam Tirmizi and Ibn-e-Hazm has categorized it as sahih as mentioned by Hafiz Ibn-e-Hajr (AL-Takhlees al Hajr Ala Sharah Madhab, Part 3, p.g. 274)
3. “Abdullah Ibn-e-Umar reported: I saw Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him), When he started prayers he raised his hands upto the level of both shoulders….. And when he intended to do ‘Ruku’ and when he raised his head after ‘Ruku’ he did not raise his hands” (Sahih Abu ‘Awana, Book 2 Page 90, Musnad Humaidi, Part 2, Page 277)
Muhadith Abu Awana is among students of Imam Muslim [ra]. In his book he did research work on Sahih Muslim and collected more “sanads” for ahadeeth in Muslim. Imam Humaidi was the teacher of Imam Bukhari (Bustan-ul-Muhaditheen, 98, 95). As per Maulana Faiz Ahmed, Both these two very learned people have considered the hadeeth as sahih which is a clear evidence of authenticity of Tarke-Rafa Yadain.
4. “Narrated Al-Bara' ibn Azib: When the Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) began prayer, he raised his hands up to his ears, then he did not repeat.” (Abu Dawood, Part 1 Pg 116, Tahawi, Daara Qutni, Musannaf Abi Shaibah)
5. Abdullah (Ibn Mas'ood - radhiyallahu anhu) said: I performed Salaat with Nabi (Sallallahu alayhi wa Sallam), with Abu Bakr and Umar (radhiyallahu anhuma). They did not raise their hands except at the time of the first Takbeer in the opening of the Salaat. (Daara Qutni, Ibn- Adi, Bahiqi)
6. Narrated AbuHurayrah: When the Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) began his prayer, he raised his hands extensively. (Abu Dawood, Part 1 pg 116 ).
Maulana Faiz comments that this hadeeth only mentions about raising hands at the start of prayer and does not contain an indication of doing raising hands at the time of ruku that is the reason why Imam Abu Dawood [ra] includes this hadeeth in the appropriate chapter.
7. Hazrat Aswad, Reports: I have seen Hazrat Umar [rd] he raised his hands at the first takbeer and did not repeat. (Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaibah, Part 1, P.g. 237, Tahawi, Part 1, p.g. 133) This hadeeth has authentic chain and as per Hafiz Ibn-e-Hajr[ra] the chain is reliable (Ad-daraya, pg 152) Authentic as per the condition of Imam Muslim (Al Johar annaqi ala sunan Baheqi, part 2, p.g. 75) Authetic Chain (Umdat-ul-Qari Sharah Bukhari, Part 5 Pg. 273)Authentic as per Imam Tahavi (Tahawi, Part 1, p.g. 133 )
8. “Hazrat Ali [rd] use to raise his hands at the first Takbeer and he did not use to raise his hands after that” (Musannaf Abi Shaibah Part 1 p.g. 236,Muatta Imam Muhammad, Daara Qutni)
Imam Nasaai narrates ahadeeth in his book concerning rafa-yadain and then he adds a chapter after them with heading "abandoning of this (Rafa-yadain)". In this chapter he includes the hadeeth of Ibne-Masud (rd).
